Nothing screams autumnal vibes quite like a delicious, sweet apple recipe to enjoy. From strudels to pies and even the classic apple crumbles. Tis the season of harvest and apples are one of the fruits of that season. Plus who doesn’t love a warm apple pudding at the end of a long, cold day?
This recipe is really easy to achieve but the results are really delicious and look fantastic. They are perfect as desserts or even with an afternoon cuppa. A hybrid of an apple crumble and pie all rolled into a little bite-size portion. Autumn perfection!
If you want to really make the most of apples this season then it is easier than you might think. Here are a few uses for those seasonal apples.

What You Need For Your Apple Crumble Pie Cakes
For these delicious little crumble cakes, you will need the following
Perfect Autumnal Stewed Apples
- Apples – 6 good-sized ones
- Brown Sugar – 3/4 of a cup
- Ground Cinnamon – 1 teaspoon
- Mixed Spice -1/2 teaspoon
- Water – 3 tablespoons
- Butter – 1 and 1/2 tablespoons
Peel and slice your apples and place them in a bowl with the sugar, cinnamon and mixed spice to mix. Making sure to coat the apples fully with the coating.
Put the apples in a pan with the water and the butter and cook on low to medium heat for 8 – 10 minutes. At least until the apples are tender. Then allow your spiced stewed apples to cool.
You can always use a shop-bought shortcrust pastry or you can make your own shortcrust pastry. Either way, you want a shortcrust pastry base for your apple crumble pie cakes. This will need to be blind-baked to create a pie crust bowl.
For the crumble top, you only need 3 simple ingredients.
- Flour – 1 cup
- Butter – 2/3 of a cup
- Brown Sugar – 1/2 a cup
Soften the butter in a bowl and add the flour. Rub the mixture together until it resembles bread crumbs. You can then add the sugar and rub it again. Cover a baking tray with baking paper and spread your crumbs out. Bake in the middle of the oven on the gas mark 4/ 180c for 10 minutes. Until it is golden brown but be sure to check it at the 5-minute mark and give it a little shake and mix.
Putting Together Your Apple Crumble Pie Cakes
Start by blind baking your short-crust pastry in the oven. Grease your tray with butter in each muffin slot and then add circles of pastry. Add a little baking paper inside each pastry bowl and fill the pastry base with rice to weigh it down slightly and stop it from rising. Cover with more baking paper. Bake on gas mark 4/ 180c for 8-10 minutes. Once finished take out the rice and baking paper and allow to cool.
Add the now, cooled spiced apple mix and then top with your crumble mix. That is it you’re done and your beautiful, autumnal, spiced apple crumble pie cakes are done. These are wonderful hot or cold on their own or even with a dash of custard. They were a huge hit across the household and a perfect autumn pudding.
