looking for a fun, cheap day out during the Summer break? Then Lacock has what you need, sunflower picking for the family
With the children being home from school for summer break it can be difficult to find ways to keep them entertained. There are lots of crafts for days at home but we all love a cheap day out. Fun, in nature and enjoying the fresh air is what summer is all about. Sunflower picking at Whitehall Garden Centre Lacock is a perfect choice. That’s right, not just Christmas magic but summer magic too.

Located in Lacock, Wiltshire, pack a picnic, pick some sunflowers and make the most of some family time. May as well be in one of the loveliest villages the UK has to offer. With famous locations, beautiful nature and a quaint village.
Why You Need to Get Out and About
As a parent, it can quite often feel like groundhog day, especially during the holidays. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have holidays booked or days out. A cheap and affordable day out is a great way to make the most of the summer holidays and the time we have together. After last summer it’ll be nice to get out and about again.
Lacock Village
Where do you start with this gorgeous village? Home of the Locock Abbey which is where the photographic negative was invented. The Abbey also makes up part of the various Hogwarts filming locations. You can visit the Abbey for a price and you can check the Abbey website for more details.

The village itself is just as beautiful and quaint being nearly as it was hundreds of years ago. With great pubs, great cafes and even a small park for the kids to run around. A perfect setting to sit and relax whilst enjoying your picnic. Who doesn’t love some alfresco lunch?
Whitehall Garden Center Lacock
Is there a parent out there who doesn’t love a mooch around a garden centre? Whether it’s flowers, pets supplies, gifts or artisan foods Whitehall has it all. There are also a small number of animals and pets in the pet store that the kids will enjoy visiting.

They also have two cafes onsite that you can enjoy and usually a park for the children to enjoy. This is still currently under covid restrictions but this may change as the summer continues.
Sunflower Picking
We went along to Lacock and enjoyed their sunflower picking yesterday with my bestie and her girls. Open as of yesterday from 10am – 5pm and I have to say they really are gorgeous.

There is parking on-site and it is free to park. You can bring your own secateurs for cutting your sunflowers or can hire some for just £1. Flowers are £1 per sunflower and it’s a minimum of 5 flowers so five quid basically. It’s also a great opportunity to grab some gorgeous pictures. With the added bonus of a gorgeous sunflower bouquet to brighten up your home.

Time to Play
They even have a lovely area with lots of peddling powered tractors for children to play with. Now, most of our children were too big for tractors but that didn’t stop them from trying. There are hay bales set around for sitting and you could easily sit amongst the sunflowers and enjoy lunch.

It really is a fantastic place to visit and if you plan well you can make a whole day of it. We had such a blast and I loved taking a million photos. The perfect summer day in Wiltshire? Probably! Lots of Love,
