There was no denying that 2020 was a hard year for everyone the world over and at times it was a struggle too. From bills and homeschooling whilst working from home. Struggling mentally with everything that was and is still happening today. Especially with the UK having gone in to another full lockdown on January 5th. In times of worry and strife it can be really hard. Hard to stay focused and to remain positive when there is so much BS and negativity going around. Today let’s share 5 ways to stay positive for 2021. Even if Covid isn’t gone just yet we can still take a great attitude through this year with us.
A gratitude journal is exactly what it sounds like. A diary or journal where you can write down every day what you’re grateful for and really appreciate what you have. Peace and quiet with a warm cup of tea. Birds singing early in the morning. Whether it was your child’s milestone, your own or even a friend or relative. A personal goal you’ve been able to achieve after working so hard. Even kindness from a stranger can make us feel so amazing and grateful. It’s these positive actions and reaffirming them that helps you realise all the wonderful and small moments in our lives.
Make the most of the positive moments to take you through and inspire your whole year. This doesn’t even need writing down you could just list them to yourself daily. You could share them over dinner with your family or even keep an actual diary if you want. It’s just a nice simple way to remind you you’re doing great and life, although difficult, is great.
Positive Soundtrack to Life
Have you ever noticed how much music can affect your whole mood? Bang those tunes on loud and just dance the negativity away? Does it work or are we just tricking ourselves? According to Harvard, it would appear that music can have lots of positive effects on the body.
Not only on our bodies physically but mentally as well. With this in mind be sure to try and listen to some upbeat music if you’re feeling a little less positive than usual. You could also add some to your workouts or during errands and chores.
A Positive Diet?
We all know how a healthy diet can really make a difference in people’s life. How with a well balanced and nutritious diet our bodies are much fitter, healthier and happier.
The same can be said for our attitudes. If you’re eating healthy foods and drinks your more likely to be in a better mood. A balanced diet is key to a positive lifestyle. Helping keep sugar highs and lows at bay meaning getting hangry is never a problem.
Move Your Body
Whether it’s a walk with the dogs, children, husband or all of the above. If you’re doing a full shred in your ‘at home gym’. Even if all you can manage for now is some arm raises and leg lifts. Do it and move your body.
As humans we need to move and keep fit and it can make a big, positive difference on your mood if you do. From endorphins being released from exercise to the feeling of achievement it can give. Moving your body is going to make you feel good and positive. Yes, dancing round the house whilst cleaning 110% counts loves.
Help Where You Can
Have you ever thought about the impact you have on others? What if you could put something positive into someone else life and in return feel good too? Age UK has so many ways that you could get involved with helping the older generations that need it.
The best bit is they even have a wonderful ‘Befriending Service‘ where you can extend your friendship to someone who may be lonely. Without family and friends nearby or at all. Giving back really is the best way to bring some positivity to someone else’s life, as well as your own.
