During this strange time why not take the little ones on an adventure right from the front room?

Great Books and Authors for the Family

How are you my lovelies? I hope you and your family are well, healthy and staying home where possible. With the difficulties that we’re all going through I want to help in anyway I can. It happens that I am an ideas person so I’ll share as much as I can over this quarantine process. Helping to keep both you and your families busy and focused. It was also included in my post “10 Ways to Relax“. This includes a great list of great books to share with the family. Who doesn’t want to foster a love of reading?

Many parents are worried about their children’s education. How will they cope at home? What schedule should they keep? The best advice is to discuss this with your child’s school and see what provisions they have in place. I do know that reading is such a good exercise not matter what. Now is the perfect time to read a set of books with the kids. It keeps everyone busy and using their imaginations. Plus it’s such a lovely way to spend quality time with each other. Where do you start though? With so many great choices and authors available I wanted to share some great choices that me and my children love.

Was there ever going to be going to be a book list that didn’t include the magical dude with the unusual scar? Yes, Harry Potter is such an amazing collection to enjoy with the kids. Take a trip through Diagon Alley with Hagrid. Take potion classes with Ron and Hermoine. Go on some of the most epic wizarding adventures of a life time.

With so many books to enjoy in this collection you will have plenty of reading material. You could also watch the movies along side them if you feel your children are old enough, of course. Again, hours of entertainment and you could even discuss the differences between the books and the films.

Gain some magic powers and dodge Miss Trunchball with Matilda. With so many choices you will be spoilt for choice!

Again, most Roald Dahl books have been adapted into various movies and even some into cartoons. They really are amazing stories accompanied by some of the most beautiful illustrations.

Secrets, Lions, Battles, Kings, Queens and a ……. wardrobe? Yes, The Chronicles of Narnia, including The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe are amazing journeys. Starting in our world and being transported to one so different. Meeting amazing characters such as Mr. Tumnus, the chilling White Queen and the great and powerful Aslan.

You’re whole family will be taken on a journey of a lifetime and it all starts with a wardrobe in a book. Again, you can find these books as film adaptations that are just as thrilling and exciting as the books.

Another fantastic collections of books that are massively educational. Learn about any era of history with no gruesome gore left out.

How did the Romans go to the toilet? What really happened during the mummification process? With so many decades of history to enjoy and so much to learn these would be a fantastic set to enjoy.

Books can be a wonderful way to spend time with the family. Strangely time is something we all have right now so why not make the most of it with your children. Try to relax as best you can and go on some of the best adventures with your loved ones at home.

What were your favourite books as a child? I adored Roald Dahl and have read most of his books. What are your children’s favourite stories? We have a huge Gruffalo fan and my eldest has just started the Harry Potter books. Let me know your book suggestions in the comments below.

I wanted to add that many may not want to read as they’re doers. Like to use their hands and with that in mind I wanted to share the many crafts that are here on Tahnee’s Blog for you. Don’t forget you can also utilise the many interactive learning activities available. Let’s try to enjoy this time as best we can!

Take care of yourself everyone and stay safe.
