Day of The Dead Makeup

Simple, quick and easy Day of the Dead Halloween look

Hello guys and ghouls…Welcome to the first of many Halloween posts you will see from me over the next couple of weeks. Day of the Dead makeup look. Today we are focusing on a quick and easy, on-trend, makeup look for this years All Hallows Eve.

Day of the Dead or Día de Muertos as it’s originally known as a Mexican holiday. It has been a huge trend this year and on everything. We have seen a huge influx of these beautiful, decorative and vibrant skulls recently. I’m going to show you how to get the look this Halloween.

Day of the Dead Base Foundation

Start by making your whole base foundation lighter. You can do this by using a concealer lighter than your own skin tone. Then sealing it with translucent powder to set it. You could just do your normal foundation routine and this look would still work.

Next, you could add a white base colour and really make the design pop but this isn’t a necessity. Make sure it is one that will stay put as mine was rubbish. Mistakenly, I used a child’s face paint set which was too oily. If I was to do this look again I would use a better quality product for sure.
I finished all this off with a really orangey, brown contour look just to bring some definition to it. I went really exaggerated with it as well, I mean it is Halloween. You could always use bright coloured makeup and that would look fab.

Main Areas of Focus

Now you have your base there are three main areas to focus on. Eyes, nose and mouth. You could also add flower designs to your chin and forehead if you wanted. I went with the main three as I wanted something quick and easy.

For the nose simply follow the shape around your nose and colour this black. I used a liquid liner for this. The felt pen style ones. This worked well because of the way they dries. Meaning longer lasting.

Lips

I went very simple with the lip and added a nice pop of colour. I lined them with eyeliner and extended the lines with curls at the end. Adding a few flicks and wisps for detail. This gorgeous deep maroon lipstick really added a pop od colour but a red or even a blue would great.

Eyes

The eyes were the hardest part by far. I started by using my eyebrows to help me shape it using black eyeshadow. Once the black circles are in place you can add the small loops around the edges. I tried to do this with liquid liner again but it wasn’t great. Sometimes opting for a good ol’ pencil liner instead will do the trick.
I used coloured eyeliner, in green and red, to colour the loops in. If you don’t have that why not use some brightly coloured lipstick or eyeshadow instead.

DOD-Eye

Finish off by adding eyeliner to the top and bottom waterlines, mascara or some lashes and you’re done. There you have it a simple, quick and easy makeup style. Using things you may already have in your makeup bag.
